When Mohawk Industries was in need of a creative way to promote SmartStrand, their exceptionally durable and soft new carpet, they called on Intermark to build buzz about the product. Mohawk and Intermark decided to put SmartStrand to the ultimate durability test by putting the carpet inside the rhino exhibit at the Birmingham Zoo! Cameras were positioned in the rhino exhibit & Intermark created a website to capture all of the excitement via a live, twenty-four hour video feed. Visitors watched in amazement as the SmartStrand carpet withstood two weeks of mistreatment from a one-ton Rhino. In addition to the visitors who tuned in to the video feed on the website, the event had an overwhelming following on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. These channels offered more than ten million dollars worth of media, with an audience approaching five million people in the U.S. alone! An e-commerce section was created so Mohawk could sell t-shirts for the event and donate a portion of the proceeds to local and national rhinoceros foundations.
